Yet another British MEP stands up to be counted. Martin Callanan tells the European Parliament that “more Europe is not the answer”. He goes on to say that the EU’s budget proposals are “yet another wish-list by a European elite which every day becomes more and more distant from the concerns of ordinary people.”
Buzek obviously finds Guy Verhofstadt’s blue card intervention amusing, it’s just a game to them. Verhofstadt somehow manages to conclude that direct EU taxation is “giving power to EU citizens” – a nice twist on democracy. Callanan comes out of it all quite well. As an aside, you’d think that with his salary, Verhofstadt could afford to have his teeth fixed.
