Italy’s Finance Minister, Giulio Tremonti, emerged from today’s “fruitful” talks with Jean-Claude Juncker and said: We will continue our meditation or it might have been medication – either of those are probably the best options they’ve got of rescuing the euro-zone.

Barroso has been fretting that ‘the markets just don’t understand us’ and Berlusconi’s speech appears to have gone down like the proverbial lead balloon.  A German government spokesman also chimed in with: “There is no cause to fret.”

You have to hand it to them, when it comes to self-delusion, no-one does it better than a eurocrat. Happy Days!
