Lord Hanningfield, who was released earlier this week after serving only three months of a nine-month jail term for fraudulent accounting, has been re-arrested by Essex Police.
Hanningfield was originally jailed for fiddling almost £14k of expenses while he was sitting in the House of Lords and Leader of Essex County Council. It looks as though he’s been double-dipping into the public purse and charging twice for travel/accommodation expenses.
He’s been released on bail until next year. Let’s hope that if he’s found guilty he serves more than three months this time since he seems to be a serial cheat and re-offender. He’s another public servant who steals because they feel they’re “entitled.”
